At Aston Manor, Drama is a weekly subject for years 7 to 8 and a GCSE option subject for years 9-11. In years 7-to-8 pupils explore a variety of themes, topics and plays – from Shakespeare and Marlowe, to Medieval history and the medium of television. Through these explorations, pupils learn a range of Drama skills – from “Freeze-frame” to “Hotseating”, from ‘Devising’ to ‘Duologues’.
At GCSE, pupils get to see live theatre and work with performance professionals to further develop their skills and confidence – helping them towards not only careers in the theatre but develop abilities that can help them in many professions (such as teachers, managers, doctors and lawyers).
The department is also proud to offer extra-curricular activities, such as school productions (see the community, school production section of the website or visit our school YOUTUBE page) and film-making clubs. We have also developed strong external relationships with local theatres and performers, which have been able to help pupils gain valuable work experience at the Drum and REP theatres as well as appear on stage and on television.
